A seawall inspection isn't a quick glance from the patio. A good one looks at the wall as a system — above the water, below it, and behind it.
What Typically Gets Checked
The cap
Cracks, spalling, rust staining and separation.
Panels and joints
Alignment, gaps and cracking along the wall face.
The yard behind the wall
Sinkholes, soft spots and settlement.
Alignment
Lean, bowing or rotation along the length of the wall.
The toe
Scour or loss of material at the base.
Connected structures
Docks, lifts and pilings tied into or near the wall.
How to Prepare
- Schedule around low tide if possible
- Clear access along the wall
- Have any past repair records or surveys available
- Note any changes you've noticed and when
