Why the Seawall Cap Matters
A seawall cap is the reinforced concrete beam along the top of the wall. It locks the sheet piles together so they act as one structure, and it's usually where tiebacks connect.
When the steel inside the cap corrodes, it expands and cracks the concrete from within — that's spalling. Left alone, the cap loses strength and the panels below can start moving independently.

When Cap Repair Isn't Enough
A damaged cap is sometimes the only issue. Other times it's a symptom of a wall that's moving or corroding throughout. That's why cap damage is worth pairing with a seawall inspection.
If the panels below are in poor shape, a new cap on an old wall may not be the best spend — seawall replacement might be.
